Weekend Recap (And A Cookie Recipe)

Tuesday, September 4, 2018

It's September and I am so excited. This weekend was a good and relaxing one for our family--which was MUCH needed after the crazy back-to-school/moving month we've had. It also means that my photos for today's post are very sub-par but I'm okay with it!

On Friday, me and the little kids hung out in our jammies. Hayes made a display of ALL of his "kids" and asked me to take a picture. They are all "taking naps" in this photo and it pretty much is the cutest thing ever in my book.

I got a ton of laundry done and then we finished our Friday night off with pizza and the movie "Coco". Oh--I also made a late night trip to Costco and STOCKED UP. It is super nice to have a larger pantry again--we didn't have one at all in our last house and it's been almost a year since I've been to Costco! Is it weird that going bulk shopping is super relaxing to me? I love it and think it is so fun. I know, I'm a weirdo.

One of my Costco purchases was a "Bumblebee" costume for Hayes to wear on Halloween. I sent Bryan photos of all the costumes and Haysie was very adamant that he wanted to be Bumblebee and I am very excited to already have that checked off of my overwhelming fall to-do list. Hayes woke up early Saturday morning and asked to wear his costume which continued throughout the weekend. He even slept in it. I've never had a kid obsessed with a particular outfit/costume so I was happy about that and thought it was pretty darn cute.

On Saturday we hung around and watched COLLEGE FOOTBALL! The long wait is over, folks. It's the best time of the year!

Hayes also asked to be put in his "mucoon" (cocoon) like the very hungry caterpillar (our current nightly read).

Wreck 'em! We have officially splurged on cable in our new house (complete with DVR) and pretty much feel like we are living the high life. We've been without it for the last 6 years, and although we hadn't missed it too much, the things we did miss were all the sports channels and (for me) Food Network, Lifetime, and HGTV (for obvious reasons). It's nice to have those again! We watched the Tech/Ole Miss game which made me miss Lubbock all over again. I think it's finally hitting me that we are actually gone and aren't just on vacation. Wah-wah.

Lily Mae has got some curly hair here in Dallas (thank you, humidity) and it's one of my new favorite things. She's also all sorts of sass with her constant "Mine!" and "No!"...we have entered two-year-old phase, I believe. Bryan was super tired pretty much all day on Saturday and he told me Lily was to blame thanks to her need to ALWAYS be up/in to something and her constant "Look at me!" which sounds like "Em Me!" I reminded him (much to his annoyance) that I am with that eeeeeeveryday.

Parker and I made the most delicious chocolate chip cookies on Saturday afternoon and I just have to share the recipe. You can find it here. You're welcome! (sung in Maui voice duh)

Here is my giant hand enjoying a cookie while hiding in our bedroom on freshly vacuumed carpet. I had escaped to continue my re-read of Redeeming Love and enjoy those precious but usually short-lived vacuum lines. My life is obviously very exciting. ;)

On Saturday night I made chilli and we had Frito Pies, continued our football watching binge and after the kids went to bed Bryan and I continued to tackle getting the house done.  I really, really need to take some photos of the house! We are still loving it.

On Sunday we were bad and didn't go to church. I know. The last two Sundays we had gotten home from church so tired after meeting and talking to so many people and didn't really get anything done (other than crash and nap all afternoon) so we decided to take this Sunday to regroup and get the house "finished" so we could really get back to normal life and give 100% to settling into a new church and meeting new friends!

Thanks to the long weekend we were able to get all of the curtains hung, bedding done (minus Lily's twin bed and the guest bedroom dust ruffle), and got ALL of the wall art up which was a big mental drain on my end and basically Bryan's least favorite "honey-do" ever so we are glad to have that checked off the list.

On Monday night we watched the FSU/Virginia Tech game, had chicken casserole (which according to Hayes is SO TASTY), and played Jenga!

Last but not least we celebrated the beginning of fall with PUMPKIN JAMMIES.

And everyone was happy! Yay.
